Finding comedy in tragedy, stroke of genius again Taika. Its weird how the negative reviews of the film come from reviewers that seem to believe the audience must be dumb. Ive seen it twice myself and both times the audience has been laughing and crying throughout the movie. Everyone, minus those that are actually Nazis, knows Nazis are bad and are in on the joke of laughing at the Nazis in the movie. They are supposed to be idiots and show how dumb the rules and everything about Nazism truly is by laughing at it. Its easily my favorite movie of the year, I leave the movie feeling so happy and hopeful, more than any other movie has made me in a long time. I haven't been able to get the movie out of my head.

I watched this a while ago and now Ive got a crush on Thomasin Mackenzie help. I didn't expect much when I saw the trailer but man, was I surprised after watching this movie. Heartbreaking, funny and horrifying at the same time. I love it. Awe such a sweet, heart-felt and at times hysterically funny film in its dark humor in which is rare to find great comedy. certainly when it pertains to one of humanities worst moments in time next to slavery! Its perspective of those rarely thought about back then is unique and refreshing! I just hope the meaning or the message of this film isnt taken incorrectly or viewed as disrespectful. This film depicts the reality of life for children caught up on both sides of the battle line between German nazis and Jewish Humans as they grew up in a time of such hate. It depicts a view point that Ive personally never contemplated and that is being a young 10 yo surrounded by grandiose elders/role-models who told despicable lies, fairytales, and fed pure hate to frighten, enthuse and hold captive for war, the youths of that time. These kids ultimately were spare bodies on the field or if female: trained to be baby makers of a so called pure race 🤦🏻‍♀️ As JOJO demonstrates, kids wouldve been fed with ridiculous notions of the “enemy” as though Jews were from nightmares and encouraged to hate and then fight or procreate on behalf of a hideous, sick man and a pathetic nation still whining from their loser status of world war 1. Imagine the battle within a growing mind of wanting to stay loyal to the supposed cause yet witnessing and experiencing huge, blatant contradictions when face to face with the so-called enemy. I feel this film really represented the battlefield in the minds of impressionable children fighting against what they were taught to believe and taught religiously not to question yet seeing for him or herself the proof and contradiction of what they were raised in fact wasnt true and were blatant lies. Im just impressed with the story line, gave a fresh perspective yet honed in on the brutality of the reichs crimes and the suffering of the victims involved.

I feel like he had fun acting as hitler in this scene. I work at a theatre and without fail, everytime I worked this screening, I made a point to be in the theatre to watch the audience reaction to the last scene. There is something magical about seeing a bunch of stranger happy cry. I adore this movie.

This movie is my favourite from 2019. Its so funny, and honestly I cried more in this than I did in Endgame. Fantastic movie. Ive watched all the nominees for best picture and this shouldve won imo. So many iconic scenes that I wont forget. Ive been watching this scene in particular over and over for the past 48 hrs. This movie touches me like no other movie in the running did. The ending is beautiful in a way I cant describe. It boggles my mind that they found such a perfect child actor for this role, the range of emotions he portrays is stunning-some of the best acting Ive ever seen. His teeth even look like a rabbits-wtf, how is that possible? I cant wait to see what Taiki does next. Best use of Davids Heroes Ive seen. Brilliant. Btw, Yorki is straight CGI.

There's way to sweet much of Wes Anderson in this movie.
The director hasn't defected from the great comicity of what we do in the shadows. and he keeps embracing the sweet and delicate balance between good and evil. hope he's gonna spread more original ideas on the celluloid. Jojo It's just two steps beyond the classic nazi narrative. Who's good may not be as good as they think they are, who's bad may be way better than many. I just love the way this movie manages to speak about homosexuality, it's just too great. Happy feelings may not last long, Jews may be way more scaries than everen, because everything it's just pure magic gifted by the actors and the camera.

We watched this movie in class and Ill just say I had to try really hard to not die from the you know what scene. Spoiler And we finished before Captain K also sacrificed himself so I looked it up and prepared myself and luckily I did bc I barely held on for his mother and would lose it if I didnt know that Captain K did the most heroic thing for him.

So basically every scene of him.

There is potential in the idea of a Nazi spoof but the creators are not up to par. The standard of humor or writing is very low. Where is Mel Brooks when you need him. This movie tries too hard cramming slapstick or unfunny jokes. The result is their are some funny moments but they are few and far between. The bad jokes spoil the effect of the few funny ones. When things turn serious and dramatic with the bombing it's more interesting but just too little too late. The spoof just does not work here.

Rebel Wilson has the best accent and delivery. And the best lines. Scarlett Johansson as mother has a strange accent. Sam Rockwell gives a lazy performance. The Hitler imaginary friend overacts and he's the director.

The movie only gets better at the end. So it neither succeeds as a comedy or a drama Or a spoof. Go watch the Producers for comedy or the Book Thief for drama instead.
